What is the SCCA?
The SCCA, the Sports Car Club of America, was founded in 1944 by motor
sports enthusiasts, and today has over 53,000 members. There are
110 regional chapters across the country, with thousands of volunteers
supporting the SCCA organization and events. The individual SCCA regions are brought together into a powerful
national organization by a full-time professional staff headquartered
in Englewood, Colorado. This national office oversees rules, sanctions
racing series on a professional and club level, and manages licensing,
insurance and benefits for all members as well as the various
SCCA racing series. The SCCA is also a leader in the American
motor sports community. The SCCA, along with NASCAR, NHRA, IndyCar,
USAC, and IMSA, are members of the Automobile Competition Committee
for the United States (ACCUS), an affiliate of the Federation
Internationale de 'Automobile (FIA). The SCCA, a non-profit organization,
is thriving like never before; it now supports more than 2,100
amateur and professional motor sports events each year in all
50 states, Canada and Mexico. The SCCA Pro-Racing department administers
and sanctions all professional races for the club. One of SCCA's
top draws is the World Challenge road racing series for production-based
automobiles. This Championship series runs in conjunction with
other top professional series such as Trans-Am, Pro Formula Atlantic
cars, and IndyCar Events. |
